In 1824, before founder George Smith licensed the distillery, Glenlivet was an ideal location for the illicit Scotch whisky trade. Distillers produced in small copper stills hidden from the law. It was in the isolated valley that George Smith learned his craft. He distilled what later became the world famous single malt Scotch whisky, which has the distinctive fruity and floral style of Speyside.
Glenlivet 12 Year Old Illicit Still is inspired by the origins and how whisky was first made in the early 18th century.
Nose: pear parts, green apples, custard, freshly baked pastries with flaked almonds and a sprinkling of sugar.
Mouth: honeydew, red berries, maybe a touch of festive spice.
Finish: fried banana, dried oak spices, waxy citrus peel.
